Hi Rose & Rick

March 11, 2010

One interesting tidbit about being rated 50th in the nation is that the 2009 ranking is based upon 2008 data and the 2008 ranking is based upon 2007 data.  I hear Trustees and former Trustees blaming this on budget cuts.  That is not so.  It’s just bad leadership.

As to the portables…. my company designer went to elementary school here and when he attended Park Elementary was told that they were temporary.  After he was 40 years old he had the honer of working with me to design the replacement buildings to finally remove the last of the portables from that site in 2004 or 5.  Some temporary?  35 years. This year I went back to take a few photos and found more portables, some new and some old were installed last year.  Yes this was done with bond money.  The Trustees treat bond money like play money that they will never have to pay back.  Why? These are mostly 20 year bonds (if I can believe what they told me).  So with a 16 year term limit it will be the taxpayers problem.  These trustees will be gone.

Why are they putting many portables on a completely built out site with all of the CCSD standard requirements already in place?  Because the Trustees have taken it upon themselves to ignore the 1998 bond election promises to go year-around school for k-5 schools.  So they would rather buy portables, a horrible investment.

Competent planning is the hardest thing to add after the fact….
